Accor and the Earth Guest program for sustainable development
The world’s leading hotel manager and market leader in Europe, Accor operates in 90 countries with 145,000 employees.
In 2006, Accor launched the Earth Guest program, which federates all the Group's social and environmental actions around eight priorities, focused on two fields: EGO, for social projects, and ECO for environmental priorities.
EGO Issues
- Local development: Support the economic development of local communities through long-term partnerships and encourage fair trade.
- Child protection: Train employees and make guests aware of the fight against the sexual exploitation of children in tourism.
- Fight against epidemics: Prevent and combat major epidemics, in particular AIDS and malaria.
- Balanced food: Provide customers with a more balanced food selection and combat obesity.
ECO Issues
- Energy: improve energy efficiency and reduce consumption through rigorous supervision and by giving priority to renewable energies.
- Water: reduce the water footprint, recycle waste water, increase employee and guest awareness and limit waste.
- Waste: recycle more and better. Limit the amounts of waste produced at the source.
- Biodiversity: implement procurement and green space management practices that respect biodiversity. Increase employee and guest awareness through partnerships with associations.
Accor is thus working every day to achieve its goal in sustainable development: mobilizing its 145,000 staff, millions of customers and thousands of suppliers and partners, to respect the planet and the welfare of all who live on it.
