The United Nations Environment Programme

PNUEAccor has chosen to associate itself with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and its "Billion Tree Campaign".

UNEP, established in 1972, acts as a catalyst, advocate, educator and facilitator to promote the wise use and sustainable development of the global environment. To accomplish this, UNEP works with a wide range of partners, including United Nations entities, international organizations, national governments, non-governmental organizations, the private sector and civil society.

In 2006 the UNEP launched an ambitious international reforestation program which aims to encourage governments, companies and ordinary people to each year plant at least a billion trees worldwide.
The "Billion Tree Campaign" was inspired by Professor Wangari Maathai, 2004 Nobel Prize Winner, whose Kenya-based Green Belt movement has planted more than 30 million trees since 1977.
